New York- Today Apple held an even where they talked about a few new pushes they are making to impact the educational field. Lets take a look into them.
iBooks 2: Textbooks on your iPad
Apple's first major announcement today was for an update to their e-reading app. iBooks 2 has a new textbooks feature for students. Now students will be able to have their textbooks on their iPad resulting in better engagement. A few of the new features are the ability to easily highlight and annotate text just by swiping. You can also tap a word to learn its definition.
Now they will be able to add in multimedia to textbooks like interacting photos or videos. It's no surprise that Apple is making education better and cooler.
iBooks 2 also adds a few new features for instance, turning notes, highlights and annotations into an interface resembling a series of browsable index cards.
This opens up all new doors for learning in school and will save student a fortune in bookstore costs.
iBooks Author: Self publish e-books
iBooks Author is a new self-publishing platform available on the Mac App Store. This allows authors to publish to the iBooks store with great customizability of their books. There are a number of templates to start your e-book and an author can easily drag and drop photos or slide from keynote.
Textbooks in the iBookstore
Education publishing giants Pearson, McGraw-Hill and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt are all offering books in a brand-new Textbooks section of the store. There has been other start-ups that have a jump start in this field like Inkling, but Apple has the resources to take this into the mainstream.
